After roughly three years, the Meals Security Fellowship (funded by a Meals Security Outreach Program grant from the USDA) got here to an in depth in early December. Hosted in Caguas, Puerto Rico by El Departamento de la Comida and in partnership with La Semilla Meals Middle, the 4 Younger Farmers Meals Security Fellows embodied the rules of care that we had been discussing for thus a few years. Along with organizing on-the-ground logistics, the El Depa staff offered stunning meals for Fellows and neighborhood members and facilitated simultaneous interpretation in step with their rules of language justice to make sure everybody may share tales and pay attention within the language closest to their coronary heart.
After the primary day of arrivals and introductions, we started working with what the staff at El Depa calls a brigada – a piece brigade. It was an all-hands-on-deck day, cultivating and mulching terraced hillside backyard beds and mixing and laying a concrete basis for a wash and pack station. The second day consisted of an Intercambio de Saberes, an alternate of data that prompted wonderful conversations and reflections among the many greater than 30 attendees from throughout Puerto Rico!
